The Three Lakes

The Three Lakes—North Blue, South Blue, and Sweet Water—are water bodies that play a crucial role in sustaining the surrounding communities in this arid region. They serve as hubs of trade, sources of sustenance, and cultural centers for the people who live around them. The lakes are interconnected by rivers, with North Blue feeding into the larger South Blue. The rivers create fertile land along their banks, making these areas unusually green and habitable in an otherwise harsh landscape.

North Blue

North Blue is the smallest lake and lies in the shadow of the Red Mountains.

Fed by streams from the mountain range, it’s a cold, clear lake that provides fresh water to the nearby town of West Haven. West Haven is a thriving settlement that serves as the primary trade hub between the Red Mountains and the lowlands. Due to its strategic location, it has developed a bustling market where goods from the mountains, such as precious metals and minerals, are exchanged for food and other supplies.

North Blue is also a popular spot for fishermen, and the town celebrates annual festivals to honor the lake’s bounty.

South Blue

South Blue is the largest lake in the region and acts as a central artery for trade and travel.

The town of Ridge Water, located on the northern shore, is well-known for its shipyards and dockworkers. It’s a place of constant activity, where barges and small trading vessels load up goods for transport to other towns. On the southern edge of the lake lies South Point, a quieter settlement known for its farms and orchards, which benefit from the fertile lands around the lake.

Sweet Water

Sweet Water is the southernmost lake, closest to the Shattered Lands. Its name comes from the surprisingly clean and refreshing taste of its water, a rarity in this arid landscape.

This lake is dotted with watermills and irrigation systems, sustaining the nearby towns of SweetWater and Hopps Hollow. Both towns rely heavily on the lake for agriculture, growing hardy crops that thrive with the lake's irrigation.

Sweet Water is a place of folk legends, with townspeople claiming that the lake has mystical properties that offer protection from the desolate Shattered Lands to the south. Hopps Hollow, slightly more isolated, is a close-knit community famous for their Brewery.
