Session 20
The session starts as the sun sets. Athtar and Theo have made steady progress on their blueprints. The group heads back to the mayor's house to meet the half-elf.
As the group reaches the door, the guards out front tell the group to announce themselves. Pete speaks up, introducing himself and showing the bounty.
The guards are about to turn them away, but a voice from inside pipes up saying not to send the party away. Instead, she tells the guards to let the party in.
The door opens, revealing a red carpet over wooden floors. The guards step aside to let the party in.
The group heads in, meeting a half-elf with brown hair. She wears some medium armour that appears more uniform than armour, though it is well-equipped. She invites them into a room with a large table and a few chairs. She introduces herself as "Jane".
They follow, and she mentions that it's unusual that bounty hunters would seek her directly, but she's willing to hear them out.
The group asks what they can expect from the "bandits" in the mines. The woman seems to dismiss most questions or provide non-answers.
Pete is plain about what the party interprets the bandits are. He calls it as it is and asks if they are former mine-workers. The woman is aggressive and curt in her response. Saying that people who bite the hand that feeds and impede process are no longer considered part of the society.
Athtar catches on that the woman is also catching onto the groups' intent. He flashes them a knowing look while she stares daggers into Pete to give them a hint she's catching on.
Pete gets filtered by the woman's aggressive manner. Athtar pipes up asking what to expect. The woman outlines the fortification that the "bandits" have set up in the mines.
She doesn't attempt to hide the fact that the bandits were former mine-workers who demanded better pay and conditions. The company offered partial coverage on healing spells (30%) and every other Saturday off. The workers rejected it.
The woman tells the group of a fortification they have set up and instructs the party to go there to discuss more about the role.
Theo brings up alternative means to deal with them. The woman is okay with it so long as the company gets the ine back.
The group sets to leave. Gimli jumps onto the piano bench and attempts to play, failing miserably, but doing so distracts the woman enough for the group to do something amid the chaos.
Theo and Athtar pretend they don't see Pete sneak off to explore the manor. He finds two doors in the darkness in the room behind the stairwell. The left is locked, the right is open. He peers in to see that it is a bedroom.
He manages to open the locked room and finds it's also an empty bedroom. He continues further in and goes up the stairs.
The guards attempt to grab Gimli and remove him from the piano. They try their damnest, but fail. Jane is exasperated. Theo apologizes for the "brain-deficient" dwarf. She tells Theo that they should get their member to leave before he gets shot in the back.
They all leave and are escorted out by the guards. All except for Pete who continues to explore the manor. He finds a room and in it is a map of the frontier. A marker is placed between Ridgewater and the Frontier. A blob in red which is where the mine is.
There are also three blue circles that he can't quite figure out where it is. One is in West Haven, and one is on the river between Ridgewater. He makes a crude drawing of the map and sneaks back down. He catches a glimpse of Jane, but she doesn't see him. He spies into the room which looks like a guest room. He passes by a room and hears someone struggling on the toilet. It doesn't sound like it's immediately in the next room.
He continues sneaking around but unfortunately, winds up opening a door to the same room Jane is in. She tries to use charm on him, but he resists. She raises an eyebrow at his ability to resist. He paces back out and turns to leave. He blows his whistle alerting the guards and the rest of the party.
Father Denith shows up. Pete fills him in as Theo melts the hinges off the door. In his dying breath, he yells "Run." Father Denith sees this. He pulls a chainsaw out and heads into the house. Jane throws Theo's body at him, hitting him out. She comments that she didn't think he'd have the guts to challenge her.
The two exchange words. Father Denith comes out carrying Theo's body. He tells the group to meet them at the church. He's going to give Theo a proper burial.
