Session 13
The party is traveling to Ridgewater to investigate the Churge of the Becoming God. Before leaving, Una sells some items during the downtime and makes a great amount of money. Athtar and Gimli pick up some desert clothing to brave the heat and storms.
Theo leads, Gimli stands beside him, Una behind, and Athtar in the back. Pete floats around.
Three days after the party heads out, they find themselves in a field. Athtar and Pete scout ahead. They notice a wagon pulled off the side of the road, a horse, and an annoyed man outside the wagon who is examining the wheel.
Athtar informs the group and they decide to investigate. They approach the man and Una gives him a once-over. He makes subtle glances over to the group but is acting as if he never saw them. The group notices this.
The man stands up as the group approaches him. He asks if they have some tools. Una asks Athtar who only has his achemist's lab. Theodore has a repair kit. As he approaches the wheel to inspect it, the man steps away. Athtar watches while Una strikes conversation.
She asks what brings him out to this place. He replies he's on the way West Haven, looking to sell is goods. Theo glances in the cart. He asks what he's selling. The man replies he's selling potatoes and flour.
Satisfied the man is kept busy, Athtar moves to aid Theo in his repair. Theo begins repairing.
From either side of the wagon, 4 bandits come out with guns drawn.
Una draws her weapon and aims at one of the bandits in front of her. She recalls knowledge on the bandit, but he's just a normal human.
Athtar moves closer and throws a bottled lightning at the bandit. He misses, but the bandit is hit by some of the dissipation of it.
Gimli casts his hardwood armour and moves between Theo and Una. He then performs an elemental blast, missing.
Pete takes a shot at one of the bandits, hitting him. He Ranconteur's reloads and demoralizes the bandit. He then climbs into the cart.
One of the bandits pulls out his gun and aims at Una. He says they're not here to hurt anyone but demand the party drops their weapons. Una tells him to kiss her ass. The bandit shoots at her, missing completely. Another shoots at Athtar twice. The first misses, but the second hits.
The two bandits opposite the wagon take shots at Pete, but miss.
Theo channels his kinetic aura. He misses with an attack.
Una recalls knowledge on another bandit. She then two-hand grips her gun and takes a shot at the bandit, performing a sneak attack.
Athtar prepares a blight bomb and throws it at the bandit to the south of the group. He barely misses but manages to splash some of the poison on him. He puts his bomb launcher away and pulls out his new sword.
Gimli blasts the two bandits to the west of the group, hitting one. Pete shoots from the cart at one of the bandits to the east. He hits. The bandit appears bloodied. Pete then attemts to make a diversion. He succeeds and hides.
One of the bandits steps away and aims at Gimli. He scores a critical hit – or he would've if Gimli's tree didn't bend in the way.
The other bandit takes a shot at Una, missing.
One of the bandits from the east heads down to take a shot at Pete, he misses.
The last bandit takes a shot at Theo, but misses.
Theo catches one of the bullets mid-air and slings it back at the bandit, hitting.
Una takes as shot and hits him square between the eyes. She then glares at the one directly to the right of him and calls out "You're next." She calls out. She takes a shot at him but misses.
Athtar moves up to the bandit to the north. He prepares a warblood mutagen and downs it.
Gimli targets the same bandit. He hits him and kills him. He then raises his shield.
Pete takes a shot at the bandit to the southeast and scores a critical hit. The bandit falls to the ground, dead.
The bandits turn to run. Theo casts a 300ft blast. Athtar, Gimli, and Pete try to run them down and catch up to them, but Athtar falls behind. Gimli and Pete catch up.
Pete tries to lasso the stronger bandit, but the bandit catches the rope and drags him by pulling the rope.
Theo manages to nail the bandit in the head with some of the screws from the wagon arcing through the air and crashing down into them.
The group ends up catching the bandits and drags them back to the wagon. Theo discovers the location of Billy.
Pete interrogates the remaining gang member who doesn't want to talk on account of having killed the rest of his gang. He eventually spills their reason for camping out on the road. Their plan was to rob people on the side of the road, threatening them to drop some of their supplies and let them go. They're not trying to kill people.
The bandits came from salt creek, barely earning money. They were on strike from their jobs at the mines, and the black blade was hired to stop the strike. The bandits hate the black blade as a result. Many of them are still holed up in the mines fighting for their lives.
The group deliberates on what they want to do with him. Athtar wants to keep him alive as he believes the man can change. Theo wishes to test if dustwalkers can be created with the blood of another dustwalker spreading on them before they die.
The group decides to keep him alive. The man darts off. Una takes aim at the back of his head and shoots. She nails him right in the dome, killing him.
Four days after the last encounter, the group sees a destroyed wagon off the side of the road. It's a bloody scene, it looks like there was a fight. Three bodies lay, one is torn limb from limb, another is inside, and the last is a little further away and ditched.
Athtar investigates All 3 are human, one is an adult, two are children. Athtar can't bear to look at the scene long enough to try and understand what happened.
Una takes a look. She notices scarring that is the result of negative energy. She also sees blademarks. She can tell that this group has been dead for at least two days. The group knows that this is the work of dustwalkers.
Theo opts to eat the bodies to satisfy his undead hunger. Pete searches for tracks. While it's been a few days, he's able to find some tracks. He thinks around 8 dustwalkers came and attacked. He isn't sure where they are now, but he can tell they went to the North.
The group decides to move on.
A day later, the group sees another wagon, moving in the same direction as the group. It's pulled by a mule. The cart has a canvas tarp and on the side, it has a logo painted, "West Front Mining Co." It is manned by 3 dwarves.
Pete hides his dwarven clan pistol in his jacket. The group moves on.
4 more days later, the group is walking along, but they miss the signs in time. A dust storm is approaching and the group has 10 minutes to find cover.
