Dust Watchers & Wardens

To help protect the towns, certain groups have started forming to patrol and scout during dust storms. Known as Dust Watchers in some towns and Wardens in others, these volunteers have trained to move in the low visibility and keep the Dust Walkers from reaching settlements. Many Dust Watchers are veterans, former hunters, or ex-soldiers who have seen enough of the Frontier to handle its threats. They carry iron-tipped poles and lariats soaked in saltwater, which seem to disrupt the Dust Walkers more effectively than ordinary weapons.

With each storm, the Dust Watchers learn more about the undead and how to fend them off. Some believe the Dust Walkers may hold secrets to understanding the nature of the storms, and tales circulate of strange objects found clutched in the hands of the dead—a broken compass, a worn-out journal, or an ancient coin covered in symbols.
